Child Rights Watch Ghana
Overview
Child Rights Watch Ghana (CRWG) is a dedicated initiative committed to safeguarding the rights and well-being of children by addressing the root causes of abuse, exploitation, and child labour. In many high-risk communities, children are exposed to harmful practices due to poverty, lack of awareness, weak enforcement of laws, and limited access to protection services.
CRWG works at the intersection of advocacy, research, and community engagement to create safer environments where children can grow, learn, and thrive. By strengthening child protection systems and empowering communities with knowledge, the initiative seeks to ensure that every child enjoys their fundamental rights without fear of harm or exploitation.
Key Activities
1. Community Sensitization on Child Protection Laws
CRWG conducts targeted outreach programs to educate parents, guardians, and community members on child protection laws and the consequences of child abuse and exploitation. These sessions help shift harmful norms and promote collective responsibility for child safety.
2. Investigative Research and Reporting
The initiative undertakes in-depth investigations into cases of child labour, trafficking, and abuse. Findings are documented in reports that inform advocacy efforts, influence policy discussions, and support law enforcement actions.
3. School-Based Awareness Campaigns
CRWG partners with schools to deliver age-appropriate education on children’s rights, personal safety, and reporting mechanisms. These campaigns empower children to recognize abuse and seek help when needed.
4. Multi-Stakeholder Collaboration
The project works closely with institutions such as the Ghana Police Service, social welfare departments, and child protection agencies to strengthen response systems. This collaboration ensures that reported cases are handled effectively and that survivors receive the necessary support.
