Dr. Joseph Kobla Wemakor
Executive Director, Human Rights Reporters Ghana (HRRG)
Dr. Joseph Kobla Wemakor is a prominent Ghanaian human rights advocate, peace ambassador, journalist, and development communicator widely recognized for his contributions to human rights protection, child protection, gender equality, and the defence of marginalized communities.
He is the Founder and Executive Director of Human Rights Reporters Ghana (HRRG), a dynamic frontline civil society organization advancing human dignity, social justice, and accountability across Ghana and Africa.
For more than a decade, he has led high-impact advocacy initiatives addressing child labour, women’s rights, land and environmental justice, climate resilience, and sustainable livelihoods.
Dr. Wemakor serves as a Steering Committee Member of the Ghana Civil Society Organizations Platform on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Convener of its Youth Sub-Platform, representing over 500 civil society organizations nationwide.
He also contributes to policy reforms as a member of the Advocacy Technical Committee supporting Ghana’s draft Non-Profit Organization Bill. A respected international speaker, he has represented Ghana at major global forums including the United Nations High-Level Political Forum, the Pan-African Human Rights and Social Justice Conference, and the Africa Civil Society AML/CFT Conference in Botswana.
His leadership has earned numerous recognitions including the prestigious 5th UN Global Entreps Award, the Africa Peace Advocate Award (2023), and finalist recognition for the African Human Rights Defenders Shield Award (2023).
