Influential Ghanaian leaders ready for launch of Civic Space Outlook video in Ghana
Influential Ghanaian leaders are set to participate in the launch of the Civic Space Outlook documentary scheduled for Thursday, August 29, 2024, in Accra.
The event, expected to run from 10:00 to 13:00 hours, will bring together stakeholders from government institutions, civil society organisations, and the media to examine the state of civic space in Ghana ahead of the 2024 general elections.
The documentary seeks to provide a comprehensive assessment of civic engagement, highlighting trends, emerging threats, and the broader implications for democratic governance in the country.
It is also expected to spark discussions on safeguarding fundamental freedoms, including freedom of expression, association, and assembly.
Key speakers at the event include Mr. Joseph Kobla Wemakor, Executive Director of Human Rights Reporters Ghana, who is expected to address challenges affecting civic space and call for strengthened collaboration among stakeholders.
Other panelists will include representatives from the media, civil society organisations, and governance institutions, who will deliberate on issues such as media freedom, civic participation, and accountability mechanisms.
The Civic Space Outlook documentary forms part of broader efforts to promote inclusive civic engagement and strengthen democratic resilience in Ghana, particularly during election periods when civic freedoms often come under increased pressure.
The launch is expected to provide a platform for dialogue and policy reflection, contributing to strategies aimed at protecting and expanding civic space in Ghana.
